CASE STUDY - CONFLICTING ELECTRICAL CODES

Due to conflicting electrical codes between the utility company codes (NESC) and national electrical code (NEC) governing after the meter installations a residential high rise building was prevented from energizing its electrical service to allow residents to move into the building.

Sugarloaf Associates arranged a joint meeting with the developer, the utility and the government agency to discuss the issue was scheduled. The code conflict issues were discussed and clarified between the agency and the utility.

The result was the utility agreed to purchase, and accept into their electric service requirements manual, a new type of electric equipment junction,  allowing connection of the additional conductors from the building side of the service to connect with utility service.
